TOCUMEN INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
Copa Airlines, the National Airline of Panama, is one of the leading airlines in the Americas, and has established Tocumen Airport as the Hub of the Americas. The ever-increasing expansion of flights has resulted in the need for more gates and therefore the Panamanian government funded a new 20 gate Terminal with a connector to the existing airport. This created a new look for the airport, one which reflects the vitality and economic stature of Panama.
The Design Builder for the project is Constructora Norberto Odebrecht, SA. Carty Architecture served as their Program Management consultant for Architecture and Aircraft Planning. The Architecture and Engineering for the Terminal is by Foster + Partners, the Airside and Apron Design is by TYLin International. The design includes two main floor levels; Departures and Arrivals as well as two mezzanines. There is a connector building which joins the new Terminal to the existing airport. The Arrivals (ramp) Level contains Immigration Processing, Baggage Claim Hall, Customs Processing, Offices, Meeter/Greeter Hall, Remote Gate Holdrooms, Mechanical/Electrical spaces as well as the Inbound and Outbound baggage system. The Departures Level consists of the Ticketing Hall, Retail, Offices and Holdrooms for 20 gates. The first Mezzanine includes Mechanical Rooms and Airline Ticket Offices and the second Mezzanine houses additional Mechanical Rooms, the Food Court, Offices and future build-out space.
